At Royal Roads, we look at everything you’ve learned, not just your grades.
Professional roles, volunteer work, leadership, training, military service, travel, caregiving and other lived experiences are part of how we assess all applicants.
For flexible admission review, we place additional emphasis on the depth and relevance of your experience alongside your academic background — helping us assess your readiness for university-level study.
Who flexible admission is for
Our Admissions team may consider flexible admission when you:
- don’t fully meet the standard academic requirements for your program
- have significant professional or life experience relevant to your field of study
- have taken non-traditional learning pathways, such as workplace training or military education
- are returning to school after several years and want your experience to be recognized
How Flexible Admission Works
Flexible admission follows the same application process outlined on each program page.
Occasionally, we may ask for more examples about how you’ve grown in your career, led projects, solved problems or built expertise.
Other ways to get recognition for past learning
Already applied, or admitted into a program?

Note that admission under our Flexible Assessment policy doesn’t imply you’ve achieved the equivalent of a formal credential, like a diploma or undergraduate degree. It does, however, recognize that we think you have the knowledge, skills and ability to succeed in our demanding programs.
