Academics Without Borders is pleased to welcome Royal Roads University to its Network of Canadian post-secondary institutions. RRU is a publicly funded, applied research university that has focused on lifelong education since 1995. Our vision, “inspiring people with the courage to transform the world,” puts courage at our core, and our values, "caring, courageous and creative," celebrate the diversity and strengths of our community.

AWB’s Network, Canada’s universities and colleges in support of global development, is a consortium of Canadian post-secondary institutions that support AWB’s mission to work with volunteer academics to help low and middle-income countries build the capacity of their post-secondary institutions to drive development and improve the quality of life in communities around the world.

Through its membership in the Network, RRU faculty and staff will have special access to partnership opportunities provided by AWB through the organization's existing relationships with institutions and countries around the globe. Faculty will also be able to propose projects to AWB in conjunction with their post-secondary partners in the developing world.

Global citizenship, community-focused learning

“Joining the Academics Without Borders Network is a natural extension of Royal Roads University’s commitment to global citizenship and community-focused learning,” says President Philip Steenkamp. “We are proud to collaborate with AWB in their work to build stronger, more resilient post-secondary institutions around the world.”

Membership in the Network will provide RRU with enhanced recognition for its international work, as well as new resources to support and coordinate this work. By building capacity at post-secondary institutions across the developing world, RRU and AWB look forward to changing lives both at home and abroad.

“It is a tremendous pleasure to welcome Royal Roads University to the AWB Network of Canadian universities and colleges. The expertise and knowledge that RRU’s faculty and staff can offer as volunteers are invaluable to post-secondary institutions and AWB partners in low- and middle-income countries. In joining the AWB Network of like-minded institutions across Canada, RRU will make a meaningful difference in advancing global equity in higher education, while enriching its own programs and international experiences,” says Nancy Gallini, AWB’s Executive Director.

About Academics Without Borders
