President Steenkamp: Welcoming international students to Canada

I am delighted to say “welcome or welcome back!” to Royal Roads international students who have been patiently waiting to enter Canada.

As of Tuesday, Oct. 20, international students may travel to Canada if they have a valid, approved study permit and their post-secondary institution is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) with an approved COVID-19 readiness plan.

As Royal Roads is a DLI and has an approved plan, we can welcome international students to Canada – and we can’t wait.

All classes at Royal Roads continue to be online until Dec. 31, 2020. During that time, international students will learn online from their homes in Canada, off-campus.

The courage to leave one’s home and study abroad in the face of a global pandemic is tremendously inspiring to me. Students, we’re here to help as you take that leap. Follow the guidelines set out by the governments of Canada and British Columbia and keep in touch with us at Royal Roads as you prepare to travel and during your trip.

Remember, you must self-isolate for 14 days when you arrive in Canada. You can find more information on our website – look on Moodle and on the COVID-19: Moving Forward page.

For now, watch the video below to see just how excited the Royal Roads community is to welcome you to Canada and Vancouver Island!
