President Steenkamp: The foundational skill of changemaking

I’m still buzzing from our Spring 2024 convocation ceremonies and am honoured to play a part in this momentous occasion for graduates – to shake hands, meet families, some who travel across the world to be here, and to toss my cap skyward into the murmuration of their celebration. 

And what a celebration it was! I’m pleased to share my convocation video, which captures some of the excitement of the day and offers a message to graduates about what I believe to be a foundational skill of any changemaker: the ability step away from the well-paved sidewalks of one’s own way of thinking and trek the unknown paths of someone else’s point of view.
