Madan on talking to your child about Russia’s war on Ukraine

With images, stories and videos highlighting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine circulating on social media, it can be overwhelming and upsetting for anyone, but extremely distressing for children, says Royal Roads Humanitarian Studies Assist. Prof. Athena Madan.

 “They feel connected to suffering that can be happening millions of miles away,” says Madan in an interview with Saanich News, suggesting open, empathic conversation, limited screen time, and providing children with the opportunity to take action locally are strategies parents could use to help children cope.
