Political communications expert Assoc. Prof. David Black shares his thoughts on the underpinnings and implications of the federal government enacting the Emergencies Act, on CBC Radio On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko.

Here is an excerpt:

“What we are seeing here for the first time, is what has historically been a very notional, marginal and ineffective far right presence demonstrating…and we are not used to dealing with the far right in Canada,” says Black, adding “How do parties message their way out of this crisis? Who can speak to the disenfranchised?”

Black says he believes there are several things to be done outside of policing protesters in Ottawa. “Speaking to the national broken heart and the faith that has been shaken in all of us about where normal life may be and where we go from here…because the risk of not doing so, means that this moment is no longer just contained here, but becomes an ongoing rolling national crisis.”
