Join us for an afternoon of nature, learning and community at the Biodiversity Celebration, a special event hosted in partnership by the Capital Regional District (CRD), the City of Colwood, and Royal Roads University.

Set against the backdrop of one of Canada’s most biodiverse regions, this free public event runs from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 at Royal Roads University’s Colwood campus.

The celebration offers a wide variety of family-friendly activities, including guided nature walks and a showcase of regional organizations sharing their work to protect ecosystems across Greater Victoria and provide visitors with practical ways individuals and families can contribute to environmental stewardship.

“This celebration is about coming together to learn, share and inspire action,” says Maria Bremner, manager, climate action and sustainability at Royal Roads University. “We’re excited for families to explore nature and learn about biodiversity in our region.”

A virtual panel discussion will also be held on Friday, October 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., called Biodiversity in our own backyard: pathways to protection and renewal. Moderated by Bremner and featuring Canada Research Chair in Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainability, Robert Newell, Executive Director, Stewardship Centre for BC, Sarah Primeau and award-winning conversationalist and advocate for environmental protection Bob Peart. Pre-registration for the virtual event is required, Secure your spot.

Both events provide the opportunity to celebrate the incredible biodiversity of our region.
