Michael Sit-kei Ip

Michael Ip graduate student representative on RRU's Academic Council

Michael Sit-kei Ip

Graduate Student Representative

Academic Council

Michael Sit-kei Ip is the graduate-level student member elected to Academic Council, serving a term from November 1, 2022 to October 31, 2023.

Ip is a first-year student in the Master of Arts in Environment and Management program, relocating from Hong Kong to study and live on the traditional Lands of the Lekwungen-speaking Peoples, the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations.

Prior to his studies at RRU, Ip studied at two different universities among the top 100 on the QS World University Rankings. He also acted as a course designer, fieldwork supervisor, tutor and guest speaker at three other post-secondary institutions.

For the past 15 years, Ip has worked extensively in the non-profit sector with a focus on quality assurance. His experience as a senior practitioner helped develop and enhance quality service through the implementation of effective policies and procedures, and supported the prioritization of quality assurance plans within limited resources.

Ip’s interest in Academic Council stems from a desire to represent the student voice and establish strong communication lines for transparency and inclusivity, leveraging the value of the graduate student experience in the discussions among the Academic Council membership.

Creating an avenue of information sharing is an important step in ensuring an engaged student population at Royal Roads, and one that in which Ip’s passion is well-grounded.
