Leadership Victoria

Leadership Victoria provides emerging decision makers with opportunities to develop and practice leadership skills. The program emphasizes practical experience and exposes participants to current regional issues as a context for skill building.

The program helps participants become aware of the many issues facing our community and to develop leadership skills to prepare them to address those challenges. It is an action/study program supported by the local business, labour, government and volunteer sectors and foundations. The program helps aspiring leaders to build upon their existing skills and offers them the opportunity to explore community issues and solutions with current leaders.

Participants interact with a great variety of community leaders and experts in various fields, giving them a variety of hands-on activities.

The first community leadership program in Canada, Leadership Vancouver, was co-founded by Volunteer Vancouver and the Vancouver Board of Trade in 1991. There are now programs in 20 communities across Canada in various stages of development.

Kimberley Nemrava, one of three Co-Chairs of Leadership Victoria, the other two being Dennis Truss and John Shields, will accept the Chancellor’s Community Recognition Award.  Ms. Nemrava is a 1998 graduate of the Royal Roads Master of Arts in Leadership Training (MALT), and regional director, BC Coastal Region, of the Canadian Red Cross Society.
