Hudson Mack

Hudson Mack has been covering news on Vancouver Island since coming to Victoria in 1985. His career began in 1980 at CJFC (television and radio) in Kamloops and CKPG (television and radio) in Prince George. Currently news director and senior anchor at “A” News, he joined the Victoria television station in 2004 when it was known as “The New VI”, after 19 years as senior anchor and assistant news director at CHEK TV.

Named Vancouver Island`s “Favourite TV Personality” in four annual TV Week Magazine polls, Mr. Mack has received numerous industry awards including Broadcast Performer of the Year from the B.C. Association of Broadcasters in 2005. In addition to personal accolades, as news director he has contributed to the success and recognition of “A” News which has been honoured with 30 industry awards, including 17 international Edward R. Murrow Awards for Best Newscast and Best Investigative Reporting from the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). The station has also earned top news honours twice from the B.C. Association of Broadcasters.

From 1990 - 2008, Mr. Mack served on the board of directors of RTNDA Canada and, for two terms, was president. He has also represented Canada on the board of RTNDA International. Mr. Mack is regional vice-chair of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council and former chair of the National Editorial Committee of Broadcast News Limited.

Mr. Mack’s commitment to the Vancouver Island community is evident through his long-time involvement in numerous charities and local initiatives. He has participated in Variety - The Children`s Charity, the United Way, BC Children`s Hospital and the Canadian Cancer Society. He is currently a member of the 2009 Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team and will cycle the length of Vancouver Island in September to help raise money and awareness for children’s cancer programs and research.

In 2002, Mr. Mack’s significant contributions to the community were recognized with the Queen`s Golden Jubilee Medal for Community Service. He was also awarded the 2002 Canadian Association of Broadcasters` Gold Ribbon Award for Outstanding Community Service by an Individual Broadcaster.

Mr. Mack is married to Patty and they have three children.
