Gathering Kindling: Exploring Indigenous Scholars Experiences with Mentorship

Shauneen Pete was granted funding from an Internal Grant for Research for a project to survey and interview emerging Indigenous scholars to help inform an Indigenous scholars mentorship program.

How can Royal Roads University provide institutional support to the Emerging Indigenous Scholars it seeks to attract? This project includes a literature review and qualitative research. The literature review explores the experiences of Indigenous scholars in Canada; and it will explore mentorship programs designed to advance their retention. The qualitative research project will use survey and interview approaches to identify whether emerging Indigenous scholars are offered mentorship; and whether these approaches advance their teaching, research, service and promotion. The findings of the research will inform the design of a series of webinars designed to offer a strength-based, and culturally responsive mentorship program to emerging Indigenous scholars.
