Walking Softly: Experiential Reflection on Land, Memory & Collective Futures

The Healthy Planet Program is excited to welcome James Coffey and Lucas Olscamp to RRU to guide us through a land-based exploration of “walking softly”. Participants will be invited into a practice of humility, relational awareness, and the ongoing practice of unlearning (especially important for non-Indigenous learners).

Register for more event details and to find out our meeting location!

Accessibility: We'll be walking on uneven terrain in an area that is not wheelchair accessible and may be hard to reach for those with limited mobility. If you’d like to discuss accommodations or alternate ways to participate in this session, please reach out.

About the facilitators: James Coffey (he/him) and Lucas Olscamp (they/he) are both educators at Pearson College UWC, where they teach across the arts and support students in connecting creative practice with community life. James teaches IB Visual Arts and is from Maple Ridge, on the traditional territories of the Katzie (q̓ic̓əy̓) and Kwantlen (qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓) First Nations. He is of Irish and British ancestry. Lucas teaches IB Theatre and his own uniquely developed curriculum called The NEST, centred on the power of narrative, ecology, selfhood, and teaching in climate action education. He is from Epekwitk (or so-called Prince Edward Island) on the traditional territory of Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq. He is of Irish and German ancestry.

The Healthy Planet Program is an initiative co-led by the Climate Action and Sustainability Team and People and Culture's Healthy U team to offer campus stewardship opportunities to staff, students, faculty and community members. We gratefully acknowledge WWF-Canada's Go Wild grant for support of RRU's Healthy Planet Program.
