Land acknowledgements have helped generate knowledge and awareness about the Indigenous lands currently occupied in Canada.

This workshop is designed to help organizations and individuals develop land acknowledgement practices. Together, we will examine questions related to land, its original inhabitants, and all those who currently occupy it.

Dr. Wayne Clark (Inuk/Tiqarakjuaq) will lead a presentation and discussion emphasizing the value of land acknowledgements and their purpose in decolonizing spaces and advancing reconciliation in a post-modern context. We will discuss treaties, land claims, and locations, and how organizations and individuals can develop land acknowledgments that are unique and meaningful to First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples.

Please note

This event is part of the Gathering on Professional Communication in Indigenous Contexts. Participants in the Land Acknowledgement Workshop are also expected to attend the Afternoon Sharing Circle on Friday, Oct. 20 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Registration is limited to 15 participants.
