In this workshop, participants will learn plaiting and twining techniques in cedar weaving and will create a cedar coaster with Haida artisan Irene Mills, using cedar Irene harvested and processed herself. Through this session, participants will develop an appreciation and understanding of the knowledge and craftsmanship that goes into Indigenous art forms.

Irene is from Skidegate in Haida Gwaii and has been weaving cedar baskets and hats for over 30 years. One of Irene's commissioned pieces is at the Smithsonian Institution, which demonstrates the three stages of cedar basket making.
