Design Principles for K-12 Online Learning

Elizabeth Childs received a Research and Professional Development grant for a research project on K-12 online learning focusing on design methods and design principles.

This research project builds on work done in partnership with the British Columbia Ministry of Education and CANeLearn which involved educators in creating design principles for K-12 online learning (Childs, Crichton & Kinsel, 2022; Crichton & Kinsel, 2021). A literature review examining the use of design principles, models of blended learning post-pandemic, and systemic change in the K-12 was completed. This project and its resulting literature review helped to inform the national conversation on K-12 online learning and foregrounded a book in progress focused on using participatory design methods and design principles to leverage change in the K-12 system.
