This course introduces core principles of chemistry, with an emphasis on real-world examples from the environment. Students will explore energy changes in reactions, the laws of thermodynamics, and the balance of chemical systems through equilibrium and acid–base chemistry. Reaction rates and mechanisms are examined in kinetics, while the final unit introduces the structures and reactivity of key organic functional groups. In the lab, students gain hands-on experience with essential scientific techniques, including how to observe, record, and communicate experimental findings. Pre-requisites: CHEM101.
