This course will focus on methods and techniques of environmental planning in Indigenous communities as Nations exert their rights to plan and manage their lands and waters. The First Nations Land Management agreement and the Land Codes as a way of exercising sovereignty and getting out from under the Indian Act will be explored as well as advantages and disadvantages of this option for Indigenous communities. The course will also identify what other needs Indigenous communities have for ways of protecting and planning their lands and resources and unique responses to those challenges.
