Advancing Accessible Research Practice in Canada

Building on post-secondary expertise, experiences, and resources across Canada, this project will deliver a training & knowledge mobilization framework for increasing access to, and within, research.

This project intends to drive the embedding of accessibility across the research lifecycle to shift Canadian research norms from reactive accommodation to proactive, inclusive design. Accessibility is a core dimension of research quality, rigor, and impact.

Building on existing expertise, experiences, and resources in post-secondary institutions across Canada, this project will deliver a training and knowledge mobilization framework for increasing access to, and within, research. The framework will integrate asynchronous modules, interactive webinars, and a comprehensive guide; all informed by collaboration with people with lived experience of disability. The online modules will address foundations and legislation, inclusive research design, accessible team practices, data collection and analysis, and accessible outputs and dissemination.

All tools will be available in both official languages and openly available online. The resources will provide practical guidance, templates, and implementation strategies that are applicable across disciplines.

Gwen Hill (Royal Roads University) is a co-applicant on the grant which is being led by Mariam Hayward (Western University).
