Dr. Alfiya Battalova is an Assistant Professor and Program Head of the Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies at Royal Roads University. With a PhD in Disability Studies, Alfiya brings over a decade of experience in community-based practice and research, focusing on disability and health. Alfiya’s research explores the lived experiences of people with disabilities in the areas of postsecondary education, health care and assistive technologies, disability policies, community engagement, and outdoor recreation.

As a person living with a disability, Alfiya’s lived experience deeply informs her approach to accessibility initiatives. Alfiya’s professional journey includes leadership roles in accessibility initiatives and extensive collaboration with community partners. She is committed to not only advancing academic knowledge but also bringing practical value to local communities, promoting inclusion and belonging for disabled individuals in diverse contexts. Alfiya is passionate about fostering accessible and equitable environments at RRU.
