Description

The Professional Project Administrator (PPA) Program is employment-focused online training designed to equip learners students with the relevant applied learning to build a professional, industry-transferable skill set. The PPA Program provides the skills and tools students need to start a successful career in the rapidly growing profession of project administration. Graduates have been hired by health, education, non-profit, government, media, and Indigenous organizations. Some graduates have also used their skills to start a business. 

Program Overview 

1. Foundations of Project Management (5 weeks)

This course introduces students to project management techniques applicable in every job sector. Students will be introduced to an internationally accepted framework from the Project Management Institute (PMI) for managing large and small projects, local and international, incremental and transformational. Students will also explore traditional PM methodologies to help inform their project management skills and provide alternative perspectives on how to successfully manage projects. 

2. Foundations of Collective Leadership (5 weeks)

In this course, students have an opportunity to explore how collective leadership works. They will learn how to leverage personal and collective capacities for community development. Students will also explore how to build relationships that honour the importance of each person’s contribution, explore strategies for mobilizing and coordinating with others to achieve collective project goals. 

3. Foundations of Data Management (5 weeks)

This course will focus on writing technical information narratives and creating visually meaningful content to present data in ways that draw-in audiences and support decision-makers for action. Today’s organizations are overwhelmed with data and information. A crucial role of the project administrator is to sort through the data and information clutter, understand it, safeguard it, and tell a story about it for understanding and action by the organizations and communities they serve.  

PMP Exam Prep Option

Upon completion of the PPA program, participants will also have the option to prepare for the Certificate Associate in Project Management (CAPM) designation through the Project Management Institute (PMI) at an additional fee. 

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of the Professional Project Administrator Micro-credential, students will be able to:  

  1. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of collective leadership theories and practices, and the ability to apply them in real-world situations. 
  2. Develop skills in project management, including defining project scope, developing project plans, managing project resources, and monitoring project progress. 
  3. Understand the importance of data management and reporting in organizations, and develop the skills necessary to collect, analyze, and report data effectively. 
  4. Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with others, both within and outside of their discipline, to achieve shared goals and objectives. 
  5. Understand the ethical considerations involved in leadership, project management, and data management and reporting, and be able to apply ethical principles to decision-making. 
  6. Develop the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both orally and in writing, using appropriate technologies and media. 
  7. Understand the role of innovation and creativity in leadership, project management, and data management and reporting, and be able to generate new ideas and approaches to solve complex problems. 
  8. Demonstrate the ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate information and make informed decisions. 
  9. Develop an understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks that impact leadership, project management, and data management and reporting. 
  10. Understand the importance of ongoing professional development, and develop the skills necessary to engage in lifelong learning and continuous improvement. 

Student Effort

Students are expected to complete 15-20 per week of learning effort

Program Delivery

This program is delivered online in a blended format using Moodle (Learning Management System) and video-conferencing tools (e.g. Zoom). Participants will attend live virtual, facilitated sessions (webinars) and complete self-directed activities, assignments and readings throughout each week. Dates to be announced.
