Michelle Harrison is an educator committed to creating spaces for learning that are flexible, accessible and offer meaningful engagement for learners. She is a strong advocate for open educational practices and resources and takes a critical approach to adopting both in her learning design and teaching practice. Her research has focused on the role of learning technologies in learning spaces, open educational practices and how they impact students, design and institutional adoption and learning activity design.
Experience
Harrison is a senior instructional designer and Assistant Professor at Thompson Rivers University. Her past leadership roles include Chair of the Learning Design and Innovations department and the Director, Curriculum Development and Delivery position in the Open Learning division. She has recently been the lead on the development of a Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) Associate of Science diploma, and the development of a departmental design framework that encompasses foundational values of caring, openness, connection and active engagement. She is the current editor of the International Journal of eLearning and Distance Education, an open access journal published by the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE).
