Ranjana Basu

Throughout her career in social work, Ranjana has been involved in social justice and working towards social change. Alongside others in her team she has combatted ageism in institutions and the community by raising awareness of elder abuse and advocated support for family members in need. Ranjana worked in services provided to a First Nations community battling racism and as a board member of a women's shelter she backed the rights of women. Through her work with the Integrated Action Group she promoted the rights of children and youth with developmental disabilities to live in their communities as valued members. Currently, Ranjana is devoting her professional skills and energy to speciesism - the normative systematic oppression of animals. She is keen to explore the link between animal rights and social justice and its implications for social work.
