This program is delivered through our blended model which features a 1 week orientation week, a 3 week online introduction to courses, a 2 week on-campus residency and a 4 week online post residency to complete coursework. This flexible model enables students to benefit from an on-campus learning experience and community while maintaining personal and professional responsibilities.
The on-campus residency is an intensive period of collaborative study which enables students to become acquainted with RRU, their teachers and their cohort with the aim of preparing students for the rest of the program. The normal schedule for residencies is from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with homework, readings and team assignments completed outside of these hours, so it is recommended that students keep their evenings available for these activities.
The online portion of our Graduate Certificate programs takes place over the Internet using the Moodle online learning platform. Several different information delivery methods are used, including discussion forums, textbooks, articles, case studies, interactive learning exercises, podcasts, videos, synchronous meetings using Blackboard Collaborate, and 'chat' bulletin boards for corresponding with team members. Courses contain assignment due dates and team work, requiring students to plan carefully to meet course timelines.
The three courses are taken consecutively and each course lasts for a period of 10 weeks. During the online periods pre and post residency, each course requires a level of effort of approximately 5-10 hours per week. It is important to check in on each course every day in order to maintain contact with your instructors, the content, and your learning community of classmates.
