Bio (Tom Wood)
Tourism and Hospitality Management
Tom Wood has a diverse, eleven-year background in the hotel industry, including six years in management roles. Wood's specialty is rooms division operations, and his areas of expertise include leadership, service delivery, strategy, team building and revenue management. Wood is known for his outgoing personality, hands-on approach, and passion for coaching and mentorship.
Previously, Wood was the guest services manager at the Hotel Grand Pacific, Villa Eyrie Resort and Parkside Hotel & Spa, and held various front-office positions at other properties, including the Shelbourne Hotel, Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Westin Resort & Spa Whistler and the Wickaninnish Inn. Wood was also vice director of the Victoria Guest Services Network (VGSN) from 2015-17 and director from 2017-18. In addition to teaching at Royal Roads, he has taught in the School of Business at Camosun College since 2018.
Wood holds a Master of Arts in Tourism Management from Royal Roads University (2018). His thesis examined workplace stress for front-line hotel employees and recommended thriving organizations as a mitigation strategy. Wood is working on his Provincial Instructor Diploma at Vancouver Community College and is scheduled to graduate in 2020.
