Bio (Poornima Wasdani)
Poornima Wasdani is the first post-doctoral fellow at Royal Roads University appointed in the Faculty of Management and is the recipient of an Accelerate Post-doctoral Fellowship from Mitacs. Wasdani’s research focuses on entrepreneurship and new venture formation, with a special interest in gender studies. To date, she has published numerous books, journal articles, chapters, and case studies. Her 2018 book, Transnational Entrepreneurship: Issues of SME Internationalization in the Indian Context is aimed at developing an understanding of the strategies and processes involved when small and medium-sized enterprises internationalize their local products and services. Wasdani is currently pursuing research on institutional voids, microfinance, and gender in relation to consumer markets. She is also developing a scale that measures the opportunity realization potential of entrepreneurs.
Wasdani has held full-time and visiting appointments at academic institutions in several different countries, teaching undergraduate, MBA, and faculty development (doctoral equivalent) programs and supervising graduate research students. She has been a co-investigator for many research projects funded by several national and international agencies. Wasdani is currently the associate editor of the South Asian Journal of Management (SAJM).
Wasdani earned her PhD from the Department of Management Studies from the Indian Institute of Science (2014) and wrote much of her doctoral dissertation at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore. Wasdani also earned the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho scholarship from the School of Business, Kwansei Gakuin Daigaku, Japan (2005). She also holds a Master of Business Administration, with distinction (1998) and a Bachelor of Mathematics (1996) from Madras University.
