IWD: honouring champions for change

March 8, 2019
Philip Steenkamp, PhD

Today we celebrate the achievements and the contributions of women and girls in our community and around the globe. International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us to honour women who have been champions for change.

The women who have mentored and encouraged me in my life and career have made my path clearer and smoother. Their courage, tenacity and achievements continue to inspire me.

As a new member of the Royal Roads University community, I recognize much of the credit for our progress toward a more equitable and inclusive community is attributable to the unceasing work of women staff and faculty at Royal Roads. I honour their efforts.

International Women’s Day is one for celebration, to be sure.  It’s also a reminder that it’s time for intentional action. I commit to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion at Royal Roads, and to creating opportunities for a gender-balanced world.
