Human Security and Peacebuilding professor Dr. Kenneth Christie spoke to CFAX 1070’s Adam Stirling about this week’s military coup in Myanmar.

Here is an excerpt:

“This is very disturbing because we though Myanmar was transitioning to democracy. They had an election in 2015 and the National League of Democracy won a landslide, but after five or six years it’s gone back to the military again.

“The military may be a bit scared at the moment and taking advantage of the COVID situation, and the rest of the world not taking enough attention. I think they are frightened they will lose power and democracy will truly take hold in Myanmar. They’ve overturned the election and said there’s fraud… that’s typical of what dictatorships do.”
