Gary Hayes

Gary W. Hayes is a film and television professional with years of experience unit managing, field producing, coordinating, and producing independent short films and documentaries. Hayes has joined production teams spanning five continents helping to produce award-winning content for Discovery Channel Canada’s Mighty franchise. Hayes has also worked in the non-profit sector co-leading international service-learning programs in Jamaica & Nepal as part of his master’s in Global Leadership where he was the recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Canada Graduate Scholarship. Hayes’s passion for media, people, and positive change led him to become an impact practitioner and researcher exploring the complex relationship between media and social change. He is the recipient of the Royal Roads Doctoral Scholarship and multiple Mitacs Accelerate awards. His research interests include, participatory media, leadership, culture & filmmaking, and social impact producing.
