2018 Design Thinking Challenge

Lisa Helps, Victoria Mayor

The 2018 Royal Roads Design Thinking Challenge, was hosted in partnership with Downtown Victoria Business Association, and asked students to use design thinking and behavioural insights to solve the problem of too many cars on the road. At each stage of the challenge, the teams refined their ideas and gathered insights from the people using the transportation system, experts and each other. Seven institutions across Canada participated in the challenge. First place went to the team from HEC Montréal for their idea to integrate on-bus screen displays and intelligent bus shelters into the public transit system to reduce uncertainty for seniors and thereby encourage more transit trips.
