Royal Roads University has reimagined the standard case competition to focus on innovating solutions to real-world challenges, using design thinking. In a world where leaders must navigate increased complexity, design thinking provides a structured approach for bringing new, yet-unimagined, futures into being.
The next Royal Roads Design Thinking Challenge will be online.
A design thinking challenge was announced on January 3, 2022.
You and your team will have four weeks to prepare a video response to the preliminary challenge.
Round 1: February 28, 2022
The first round of the challenge takes place asynchronously. You will be required to submit a video that informs your team's response to the challenge. The videos are reviewed by judges and feedback is given to each participating team.
Round 2: March 4, 5, 6, and 7, 2022
This four-day virtual event will run daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
In the second round, you will iterate your work based on the judges' feedback and engage in a new challenge involving a real organization. During this round, two keynote speakers will present on topics linked to design thinking and its implementation in the real world. Stay tuned for more information about keynote speakers and webinars.

Solving society's tough challenges requires working collaboratively, sharing knowledge, and building on the ideas of others. The Insight Award recognizes the wisdom and generosity of the team that has distinguished itself through advancing the insight of all RRDTC participants, beyond just members of their own team.
Note: The prizes will be sent to the winning schools and not to each participant. It is at the discretion of the receiving institution to distribute.
Certificate of completion
We recognize your learning experience in the challenge. Every participant will receive a certificate of completion. You may choose to include the participation hours in the RRDTC as an extracurricular activity in your resume.
