Original sign replicated to preserve heritage
Completed: September 2012
The original hand-drawn trail sign featured painted illustrations depicting landmarks on campus and the trail network that runs through the forested area. Drawn by S. Tourigny in 1994, it included distance and elevators, as well as the location of trail markers. Through the generous donations of the Renton family in memory of Henry Renton, a local resident who walked the trails daily, a new sign was created to capture the original design and bring back the original vibrant colours and detail. It was installed for Homecoming 2012 in a new stand constructed by the maintenance staff of RRU and now again is used by the public as a guide to the trails at Royal Roads. A future project will be the restoration of the trail posts marking the various paths that correspond to the map.
