Shikha Krishna
Shikha Krishna didn't know if she had it in her to take on the business world.
That was at least until she immersed herself in class for the Royal Roads University Master of Global Management (MGM) program. Surrounded by professionals from around the globe she was encouraged to "take the plunge where taking risks leads to success," she says.
"From the very first day that I enrolled in this course, I knew that there would be a challenge at every nook and corner. I would be in a program that would be intense and pressurized, but for a good cause, as I believe like anyone else that grades really matter but when it comes to reality it's you against the world," Shikha says. "My impression has not changed but my enthusiasm has become stronger and keeps getting more powerful day by day."
Shikha came to Royal Roads having already taken an undergraduate degree in hotel management in New Delhi, India. In her previous educational experience the learning process was heavily focused on books and facts, without many opportunities to challenge her knowledge. Royal Roads approach to learning has changed her thought process and challenged her at every stage, she says.
"At every level, I feel this course has brought out the best in me," Shikha says.
Prior to coming to Canada, Shikha worked for a German company and HSBC, which gave her an insight into two cultural approaches to business. She came to Canada with a strong desire to be more global in her own business approach. It also allows her the opportunity to work on her French skills, she adds. The course has molded itself to suit her needs, helping to clarify and define her goals.
While the work in the classroom and with her cohort is challenging, Shikha can think of no better place to undertake that challenge. The peaceful, scenic campus is ideal for study.
"Bonding with nature, while studying is one of the best practices when it comes to concentrating on what you wish to do, this is where Royal Roads University is the best place to come up with new ideas and engage in a conflict of ideas and thoughts that launch into a debate."
