Rupinder Mangat, MA Professional Communication specializing in Intercultural and International Communication

J. Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Master’s, Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada

Rupinder’s research had two main tasks: to understand how Canadian Forces soldiers experience dialogue with Afghans in Kabul, and how dialogue alters their perceptions of and relationships with Afghans. How does dialogue affect a CF member who is both a warrior and a peacebuilder? Dialogue creates shared meaning and openness that fosters positive communication and relationship experiences between the dialogic partners. Dialogic interaction brings potential enemies into each other’s moral circles through cultural exchanges and people-to-people activities allowing dialogic partners to see each other in a new light.
