Loredana Feraru - BA in Justice Studies (BA-JUS)

Having this solid education has shaped me to become a confident individual and has given me a tremendous amount of opportunity...

After completing a two years associate degree with emphasis in history and political science at a local college, I looked into taking criminology, but it was too specific. I didn’t want to narrow my scope at such an early point in my career. I wanted a degree that would give me options and a broad approach to what law school would be all about.

What sparked my interest first about Royal Roads was the flexibility of the Justice Program. It coupled distance learning with on-campus modules, which would keep the learning experience fresh. The condensed one-year program was also a big selling feature as it was a fast-paced curriculum that promised to be an exciting challenge.

Continuing school to finish my degree was never a daunting task, but at I did encounter some difficult obstacles where at times it could have been. Communicating with my peers, sharing our experiences, and simply staying positive helped me get through the tough times. My group was a very small cohort and so communication was really important to ensure we built strong relationships.

I have taken vast amounts of knowledge from the Justice Program into my workplace. My familiarity of interpreting law, reading legislation and ability to do legal research is greatly appreciated by my colleagues. They are always willing to approach me for clarification when it comes to such a matters. I truly do feel more confident now handling these situations.

The RRU approach to teamwork has been a huge asset in my job as well. At Royal Roads you learn to work with all types of individuals, and this plays a pivotal role in the business world where you don’t get to choose who you work with. It was a real eye-opener for me and I’m glad I had the experience through my degree.

Stepping back from it all, I now see the transformation I’ve made into a professional. I can sit in a meeting with individuals from various walks of life and age groups, and communicate with them all on a professional level. Having this solid education has shaped me to become a confident individual and has given me a tremendous amount of opportunity to advance not only academically but professionally.
