Bringing out the best in you
I have been working as a paramedic in Regina for 13 years now. I was looking to further educate myself. I began by taking a couple of university classes at the University of Regina and then one of my peers told me about Royal Roads University. It interested me and I came.
The program has helped with better communication, with conflict resolution. Just getting to know better who I am. The staff here, for sure, and the people I met here, brought out the best in me. It’s almost magical. I don’t really know how to describe it.
My research project was on finding out what Regina Emergency Medical Services can do to create a workplace culture of collaboration and community. We do very stressful work but the people that I work with made me the person I am today, and I wanted to give something back to them and make their environment easier for them.
The management team of Regina Emergency Medical Services read the thesis and it was very well received. It has changed how things happen. It could change my career, too, but I’m really happy with what I’m doing right now. Down the road, when I want to get off the street and my back is too tired, it will open doors. So it’s preparation for the future.
The person to whom I recommended this program in Regina read my thesis and he’s actually in the MAL (formerly MALT) program now. I’d recommend this program to anybody.
