...insights about how people learn.
I knew that adding academic pursuit to a life already very full with family and career would not be easy. I live in a national park and was intrigued by the notion of distance learning and reassured by RRU`s track record with this way of learning. This method offers the chance to work and pursue a Masters degree at the same time.
What I didn`t know when I signed up was the power of the RRU method. My previous formal education focused on individual struggle and competition. RRU`s focus on group learning has provided me with insights about how people learn, and has brought qualities out in me that have been surprising and highly rewarding. Also, I find the kind of deep reflection that is encouraged by the MEEC course design and the electronic discussion group medium very powerful.
I work in environmental education and communication; this program has helped me to keep getting better at everything I do.
I`d like to think I`ve become a bit less controlling and stratified in my approach to getting the job done. I feel more reflective, more aware of the idea that no moment is trivial, and therefore more careful in choosing how to live my moments.
My major research project grew out of my desire to create a distance learning experience for tour guides, and other types of guides, who lead guided activities in Banff National Park. Over time this could be extended to include other national parks and be available in several languages.
