Angelina VanderSchaaf - BA in Justice Studies (BA-JUS)

I am excited about the future and proud of my accomplishments now that I have earned my Bachelor of Justice Studies. The program opened my eyes to a whole new system of online education and I now regularly encourage people to look at Royal Roads University because of the support that the structure of its programs offer.

The teachers added an extra value to my learning experience. This wasn’t just about acquiring “text book” knowledge. Professionals from the field cared about each of our learning experiences and tried to impart their years of experience along with conveying content of the class material.

The Bachelor of Justice Studies program helped me learn more about myself and what areas of this field I am interested in. For my practicum, I went to Zambia, Africa to work for a non-profit organization and was impressed with how confident I was in what I was doing and my direction for the future.

My family and friends were very supportive and encouraged me to continue working through all challenges and obstacles. I have looked back and sometimes wondered if I should have done the one-year program but I met so many great people that I do not regret taking the two-year online model.

I have been awakened to a new love for learning and the tools I have gained have already been put to good use. I look forward to one day entering a Masters program in social justice through Royal Roads as well.

Program head Erich Schellhammer and associate faculty member Barbara Schellhammer stand out not only as overseers but also as outstanding teachers who challenged me personally to continue to grow and learn.
 
I have already highly recommended Royal Roads to many people. On a flight to Africa, for example, I spoke with a lady from Indonesia who was looking for somewhere for her daughter to attend. I told her about Royal Roads. It definitely has an international appeal because of the substance of its programs; because it accommodates international students; and because it has an excellent program structure that allows one to get a degree while still working in the field.
