“The course in intercultural competence has helped me conduct comparative research with confidence”

“Royal Roads University introduced me to a whole new world. The overseas residency in Jinan, China, was more rewarding than any travel I had taken before or since; being immersed and educated in a different culture exposed me to the challenges and opportunities of intercultural communication firsthand.

As a PhD candidate in political science, the MA in International and Intercultural Communication from Royal Roads has proven invaluable to my research. I have applied what I learned in communication theory to bridge the academic fields of political science and communication studies. This has helped create a niche for me in academia; few Canadian scholars currently study political communication. The focus on intercultural competence has helped me conduct comparative research with confidence.

I will complete my doctoral studies next year and have already started applying for postdoctoral fellowships and teaching appointments. Where I am today – and where I’m going after doctoral studies – began with what I learned at Royal Roads University.”
