Our turbulent 21st century calls for leadership through influence - confident, innovative, collaborative women and men who inspire and create positive, lasting change in partnerships, teams, organizations, communities, and the wider world. Values-based leaders exercise their influence to make a difference by aligning decisions and actions with consciously chosen values. They inspire and enable themselves and others to accomplish their highest values in action. In the current context of global challenges and accelerated unpredictable change, values-based leadership is needed now more than ever.
Who it’s for
The Graduate Certificate in Values-Based Leadership is a competency-based program offering advanced leadership expertise for experienced and emerging leaders, coaches, and consultants who are focused on creating and supporting ‘conscious’, high-performance cultures. It will be of special interest to those who want to:
- enhance their ability to lead themselves and others through authentic shared values
- mentor emerging leaders in values-based decision-making and action
- build resilient and productive partnerships and teams
- attract and retain talent
- increase productivity
- improve the bottom line
- enhance reputation with all stakeholders
- create a positive, lasting legacy.
This three-course, nine-credit program can be completed in six months and is designed to enable busy professionals to continue to work while they learn.
In addition to its value as a nine-credit graduate certificate and professional CTT1 certification, graduates of this certificate may be eligible for credit towards electives in other Royal Roads programs as follows: nine credits towards the MA in Interdisciplinary Studies, six credits towards the MBA, and three credits towards the MA in Leadership.
Applicants who do not have the formal academic education to qualify for admission may be assessed on the basis of both their prior learning, and leadership experience in accordance with the Flexible Admission Policy.
Learning Outcomes
The new Graduate Certificate in Values-Based Leadership is designed to foster advanced leadership expertise in three domains.
- The first domain is a focus on ‘leading self’ or enhancing personal leadership through clarity in and commitment to leadership values, vision, mission, and goals, and authentically demonstrating these in action, especially during times of confusion and intense challenge.
- The second fosters the understanding and skills required to build stronger values-oriented partnerships and teams, creating the engagement and ‘buy in’ needed to make a positive difference, along with the ability to lead and inspire others in values-based leadership through modeling, coaching, and mentoring.
- The third addresses the power of organizational and community culture, and its impact in shaping our future. It includes practical ways to improve these cultures and, along with them, the long-term prospects for people, the planet, and our prosperity.
Among the models and methods of values-based leadership and culture change presented, is the Barrett Values Centre Cultural Transformation Tools (CTT1 ). Students will earn their first level certification and be coached on its successful application as part of this program . More on outcomes
Please Note: Richard Barrett, founder of the Barrett Values Centre, and developer of CTT1 co-designed the certificate and is scheduled to join the expert facilitation team for the first offering.
