The MA in Disaster and Emergency Management is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary program that combines practical knowledge and the skills required to prepare for, manage and recover from traditional and contemporary emergencies and disasters. The program examines international, political, economic, ecological, and cultural factors, cross-jurisdictional relations, business continuity and infrastructure maintenance, health, legal and insurance issues, public safety and citizen involvement in disaster and emergency mitigation, community resiliency, and post incident recovery. Graduates will be able to apply their skills in mid to senior level emergency preparedness and disaster management positions in private corporations, non-government organizations, and federal, provincial and municipal government agencies in Canada and internationally. Who it’s for
This program is specifically designed to better equip disaster and emergency management professionals in their roles as mid to senior level managers from the public sector, private sector and non-profit organizations. This includes existing leaders or those who aspire to become disaster management and emergency services professionals. More
Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be prepared to assess, prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from traditional natural environmental disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, floods and droughts; and human-induced disasters such as pandemics and health risks; as well as new, emergent threats such as bio-chemical, nuclear and cyber-terrorism. Students will also acquire research skills that enable them to contribute to the development of the emergency planning and disaster management field. More
