Today’s health care providers face growing pressure from all fronts. Public expectations are higher than ever and health leaders are mandated to make decisions to ensure quality service. In this environment of burgeoning information, and highly political, conflicted environments, today’s health leaders need to be able to gather reliable evidence based on quality research, to ensure demands for quality service are met. The Graduate Certificate in Health Systems Leadership program addresses this need. Designed by Royal Roads University in collaboration with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation’s EXTRA fellowship program, and the Canadian College of Health Service Executives (CCHSE), this certificate program focuses on developing leaders who have the capacity to effectively use quality research in decision-making.

Who it’s for
Health managers who want to enhance their use of quality evidence in managerial decisions. Participants are likely to already be working in all facets of health service delivery.

Applicants who do not have the formal academic education to qualify for admission may be assessed on the basis of both their formal education and their informal learning, in accordance with the Flexible Admission Policy.

Outcomes
Graduates will fill important leadership roles in the health sector. Students from our program will be equipped to exercise their leadership in domestic and global environments that span political infrastructures and cultural diversity. They will effectively lead multicultural groups, coordinate work processes and contribute strategically to an essential, and rapidly changing Canadian health system.

The Canadian Agency for Drugs & Technologies in Health (CADTH) has partnered with Royal Roads University to provide a morning workshop during the residency that will engage participants and increase their knowledge of evidence using Health Technology Assessments (HTA) as well as enhance their ability to practically apply evidence using HTA in making health care decisions.
