Sarah McCagherty

Business

Sarah McCagherty teaches argument, academic writing and communication, and critical thinking for the School of Communication and Culture, the School of Business, and Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University. She also teaches and tutors English as a Second Language in the School of Access at Camosun College. A skilled academic writing coach, editor and writer, McCagherty specializes in plain language communication and ESL support through her business, Scaffolding Communications. McCagherty’s areas of interest include online learning, team-based learning, and intercultural and international education.

Experience

McCagherty has been a teacher and tutor of languages and writing for the past 16 years in various settings. In addition to her six years of experience teaching at Royal Roads University and eleven years of experience at Camosun College, McCagherty has taught ESL at Global Village Language Centre in Victoria and German language courses at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She was also the editor for Camosun’s English for Occupational Purposes curriculum development project, and a project assistant with the Max Kade Institute, digitizing recordings of German dialects spoken in Wisconsin in the 1940s and 1980s.

McCagherty is certified with TESL Canada. She has received training in facilitating online learning, leading effective teams, and engaging learners with mental health and addictions challenges.
