Bio (Sandy Walker)
Sandy Walker’s unique expertise in strategic leadership comes from a decade of leading mountaineering expeditions to remote areas of the Arctic, Europe, Japan, South America and Canada. With minimal resources, members of these expedition teams pushed physical and emotional limitations in the pursuit of mountaineering objectives in the most beautiful natural areas of the world. Walker brings that knowledge into the classroom at Royal Roads through lessons on strategy and leadership. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants and the Alpine Club of Canada.
Walker is a 20-year marketing, product development, and project management veteran with extensive experience in a variety of industries including publishing, consumer-packaged goods, energy, telecommunications, and recreation/tourism in the for-profit, not-for-profit, and government sectors. She is an expert in leadership, business strategy, change management, marketing, and project management. Walker is the president and principal consultant for Routefinder Consulting, a full-service management consultancy specializing in strategic sustainable business practices.
Walker holds a bachelor of arts in languages from the University of Waterloo; an MBA in Executive Management with a specialization in management consulting from Royal Roads University; and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School. She has been awarded the Laura Vidalis Memorial Scholarship (2011), the MBA 2000 Scholarship (2011); the CEO’s Award of Excellence from Parks Canada (2012); and a Distinguished Service Award from the Alpine Club of Canada (2010).
