Bio (Margaret Leehane)
Tourism and Hospitality Management
Margaret Leehane has a particular interest in sustainable tourism and rural/wilderness tourism. Leehane conducted research on the resilience of the bear viewing industry in B.C., with an emphasis on finding the strengths of the industry that should be nurtured for a sustainable future as well as the potential threats to the industry. She is a dual Canadian-Australian citizen, and her interests include trekking, kayaking and international travel.
Leehane is the co-owner and operator of Great Bear Lodge, a bear-viewing lodge in the Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia. Her previous career in information technology saw her working in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, working in systems development and implementation.
Leehane completed a Masters of Arts in Tourism Management at Royal Roads University, and also holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Monash University in Melbourne.
