Bio (Jeff Barnett)
Jeff Barnett worked with the British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA) for more than 30 years, first as a clinical pharmacist and then as the director of clinical informatics. He retired from BCCA in 2013; however, he remains involved with research in informatics and pharmacy practice. His current focus is on personal health records, data warehousing, privacy, pharmacy systems and mobile devices. He represents hospital pharmacists on several national committees. He is the chair of the Clinical Oversight Committee for e-health in the province of B.C.
Barnett is a principal at Coast Health Informatics Consultants. At BCCA, he worked on several IT projects and became familiar with many of the software systems available in health care and business. In addition to teaching at Royal Roads, he is an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Health Information Science at the University of Victoria, where he has taught IT procurement since 2007. He is also an instructor in the Masters of Health Administration, School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia.
Barnett holds a Master’s of Science in Health Information from the University of Victoria. He also has certificates in technology and management, departmental management and computer based information systems. He completed a bachelor of science in pharmacy at the University of British Columbia.
