Bio (James Milligan)
James Milligan has built a career through a strong focus on the impact of fair trade and sustainably on business. That commitment has played out through his professional career in retail, as well as through his hobbies. His volunteer work includes roles with the Make Poverty History Campaign, the Projecting Change Film Festival, OA Projects and the Vancouver Street Soccer League. Milligan is a competitive sailor, filmmaker and musician. He devoted a decade to the band Mossy Ledge, as singer, songwriter and manager.
Milligan is the founder of Social Conscience Company, based in Vancouver. Prior to that, he was an implementation, area and store manager for Rogers Retail, and a partner with Courage Distributing West Inc. As co-founder and film producer with Rainforest Pictures, Milligan has credits on seven short films, which were accepted to eight film festivals. He is a member of Council for Canadians and Fair Trade Vancouver.
Milligan holds an MBA from Royal Roads University. He was a June 2012 recipient of the Royal Roads’ Founders’ Award, which honours a graduating student who exemplifies the qualities of leadership, sustainability and personal development. He also holds a Project Management and a Strategic Leadership certificate from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business. He has completed an array of courses focusing on sustainability through the University of British Columbia’s Continuing Studies department.
