Associate Professor

Humanitarian Studies

Erich Schellhammer was instrumental in developing the BA in Justice Studies program at Royal Roads University in 2002 and is co-program head. He is interested in cultural diversity (for him, an outcome of applied human ontology). He researches how core values and key competencies for peace professionals can be taught.  In a team, he also researches how to best train underprivileged communities in using peaceful conflict resolution strategies.

A native of Germany and Canadian immigrant, Schellhammer has worked in law and in philosophy.  From 1989 to 2002, he was a faculty member at the University of Regina, where he successfully applied informal dispute resolution strategies for union-employment conflicts. He is working towards becoming an International Coach Federation accredited coach. He is also collaborating with German universities and the African Alliance of YMCAs.

Schellhammer earned a law degree from Baden-Württemberg in Germany and his MA and PhD in philosophy at Queen’s University. He has taken extensive additional training in alternative dispute resolution and is an Erickson Professional Coach.
