Bio (Colleen McCormick)

Colleen McCormick is director of Connected Communities BC, part of the Ministry of Citizens' Services in the Government of British Columbia. After spending more than 13 years working in the public service in the fields of community economic development, Indigenous tourism, social innovation and intrapreneurship, McCormick now leads a key government file aimed at addressing the digital divide through economic inclusion and digital empowerment. She is chair of the Victoria chapter of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, a member of BMW Foundation's Responsible Leaders Network, a founding member and fellow of the Global League of Intrapreneurs, and founder of the Social Innovators Network.
A previous TEDx organizer and mentor, podcaster, and Intrapreneurship in Action blogger for Canadian Government Executive magazine, McCormick believes intrapreneurship (applying the attitudes and skills of entrepreneurship to the work within a larger organization) can change organizations and communities from within. She has acted as a facilitator around the world, hosting innovation gatherings in Africa, South America and Europe. McCormick’s current research explores applying theories of intrapreneurship, social innovation and community building to strengthen the social fabric and economic resiliency of rural and remote communities.
McCormick holds an Executive Education Certificate in Leadership, Organizing and Action: Leading Change from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (2017), where she studied social movement building and community organizing. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Social Innovation from the University of Waterloo's Institute of Social Innovation and Resilience (2012), a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University (2009) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western University (1996). Her MBA focused on using institutional entrepreneurship to better understand how to lead systemic change within large organizations.
