Bio (Nadine Penalagan)
Board of Governors Member
Nadine Penalagan, a student in the Master of Arts in Leadership program, was elected in October 2018 to serve as the student representative on the Board of Governors.
Penalagan is a business management professional with more than 20 years of experience working with educational institutions, not-for-profit organizations, businesses and government agencies.
She is regional programming officer with Bow Valley College, where she provides direction and administrative coordination to five regional campuses and acts as liaison with multiple school districts. In 2018, Penalagan was awarded the college’s Team Leadership Award for her contributions to the successful delivery of programs with the Blood Tribe and Stoney Nation.
During her varied career, Penalagan has worked with Banff Executive Leadership, the Banff Centre, TD Canada Trust, CIBC and as an independent event planning professional. A graduate of Fanshawe College, she holds a Diploma in Business—Marketing (1990).
Her volunteer experience is similarly wide-ranging, with a focus on helping her local community thrive. Penalagan has served with the Calgary chapters of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, the United Way and the Friends of the Environment Foundation. She has volunteered with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Calgary Board of Education and the Edgemont Community Association, as well as acting as coach and manager for multiple sports teams. She has served on the board of the Chimney Hill Corporation and coordinated a Christmas Food Hamper program for seven years.
