The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies
The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies falls under the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. It is responsible for the coordination of two unique interdisciplinary programs: the Doctor of Social Sciences and the MA in Interdisciplinary Studies.
All Interdisciplinary Studies offer students the opportunity to design a program of study focused on a specific research topic that would best be studied from the perspectives of more than one academic discipline.
Interdisciplinary Studies at Royal Roads University are distinct from other Interdisciplinary Studies programs on two accounts. Like all Royal Roads programs, the Doctor of Social Sciences and the MA in Interdisciplinary Studies are focused on working professionals and applied research. Both degree programs also draw from interdisciplinary, rather than disciplinary, fields of inquiry. The academic areas of expertise available to Interdisciplinary Studies students lie in the four schools that comprise the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences:
School of Communication and Culture
School of Environment and Sustainability
School of Leadership Studies
School of Peace and Conflict Management
The goal of Interdisciplinary Studies is the pursuit of a unique, specialized, applied research project that integrates the experience of working professionals and generates new knowledge and new ways of approaching research topics.
